What happened: On March 28, Delhi court granted bail to Niraj Bishnoi, the primary accused in the ‘Bulli Bai’ app case, and Omkareshwar Thakur, the founder of the ‘Sulli Deals’ app. The court reasoned that the defendants are first-time offenders, and that keeping them in prison would be damaging to their general health, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police K.P.S. Malhotra. Who is Niraj Bishnoi: “Bulli Bai” was discovered in Jan 2022 after a Delhi-based woman journalist filed a police report alleging that she was being stalked on a mobile application by an anonymous gang. “Bulli Bai” included a lot of photos of women, including journalists, social workers, students, and well-known figures, with nasty captions. Hundreds of Muslim women were displayed for “auction” on the app. On Jan 6, its founder, Niraj Bishnoi, was detained by the Delhi Police. About Thakur: Thakur, a 25-year-old Indore, Madhya Pradesh resident, was arrested on Jan 8 by the Delhi Police. In July 2021, a disparaging app was released in which images of Muslim women were deliberately displayed for “auction.” On July 8, the Delhi Police’s Cyber Crime Unit filed a FIR under section 354-A of the Indian Penal Code (Sexual harassment and penalty for sexual harassment). The bail: The main reason for granting bail to the accused persons  was that the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) results and responses from Intermediaries were still pending, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police K.P.S. Malhotra.
