Pakistan wins final T20 against Sri Lanka in Lahore
Digestible News No. 1: Pakistan won the third and final T20 match against Sri Lanka by 36 runs in Lahore this Sunday. The match being a boost to international cricket since the sport suffered a setback in the country when the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked by terrorists in 2009. The first two matches were played in Abu Dhabi before Sri Lanka flew to Lahore in a 24-hour fly-in, fly-out arrangement. This match marks Pakistan’s second 3-0 whitewash in a Twenty20 series, having previously beaten the West Indies in UAE last year.
Ministry orders investigation into Islamabad Club sexual harassment controversy
Digestible News No. 2: The Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has constituted a three-member committee to investigate a written complaint of sexual harassment. The complaint was filed by a female employee of the Islamabad Club against a “powerful member” of the club’s management. These new accusations come four months following the reported suicide of a female employee of Islamabad Club. The accuser claims that the accused used to call her to his office to discuss her “personal life” and fired her when she refused to bow to his “immoral” orders. “First I felt insecure in the office of that person, but now I am worried about the future of my three-year-old daughter. He [the club official] had threatened me of dire consequences,” she told Dawn News .
Fatwa issued for clerics to not read out nikah for those playing loud music: Peshawar
Digestible News. No. 3: Maulana Dost Muhammad has announced that a nikah, for those playing loud music, will not be read in the future- stating that it is against the Loud Speaker Act to do so. The Loud Speaker Act in Peshawar disallows the use of loudspeakers late at night to avoid discomfort to residents who sleep earlier. However, people continue to violate the administrative orders in the Passani village area. “Even if they play music, there should be some limits, as playing loud music till 3am is not something that can be accepted easily,” a senior citizen of the area told The Express Tribune .
Modi lashes out against Congress leader’s speech on Kashmir, says he is using the language of “separatists”
Digestible News. No. 4: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday of “shamelessly using the language of separatists and Pakistan”. When in an election rally in Gujarat’s Rajkot the latter said that when people of Kashmir ask for ‘ azadi’ (freedom), most of them mean they want greater autonomy. “All of a sudden, those who were in power till yesterday [reference to Chindambaram] have taken a U-turn. Shamelessly, they are making a statement and are lending their voice for Kashmir’s independence,” Modi was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s rally in Bengaluru.
India starts trade route to Afghanistan via Iran
Digestible News No. 5: India on Sunday shipped its first consignment of wheat to Afghanistan by sea through Iran’s strategic Chahbahar Port. Thus, launching a trade route bypassing longtime rival Pakistan. The shipment, an Indian gift for Afghanistan, was sent from the western seaport of Kandla. It will be taken by trucks to Afghanistan from the Iranian port.
In his new Afghanistan strategy unveiled in August, United States President Donald Trump asked India to do more to help Afghanistan’s development.
India, Afghanistan, and Iran last year decided to jointly establish a trade route for land-locked Central Asian countries. India committed up to $500 million for the development of the Chahabar Port along with associated roads and rail lines. To read more, click here
Noor Zaman, Ayesha Gulalali’s former secretary, assassinated in Laki Marwat

68 Indian fishermen are released by Pakistan for trespassing: AFP
Digestible News No. 7: Pakistan released 68 Indian fishermen held in captivity on the account of trespassing into its territorial waters. Previously, Pakistan released 78 Indian fishermen in July. Since the Arabian Sea Border is not well defined, boats of both Indian and Pakistani fisherman cannot find their exact location due to lack of technology. Hence, this activity causes for detainment for illegal fishing. “The fishermen were released from Karachi’s Malir jail,” A senior official from the prison Afaq Rizvi reported to AFP. Currently, 380 Indian fishermen are detained behind the bars of Pakistani prisons.
