Covered in thick smog, Lahore is the world’s most polluted city

What happened: The latest data released by Swiss Air has ranked Lahore as the most polluted city globally. Lahore has now left behind New Delhi in the air quality ranking, as it tops the list with a rating of 243 PM. Lahore’s air has been deemed  “unbreathable”  by various health experts. At the same time, the citizens of Lahore have been reporting different respiratory diseases caused by air pollution.

Details:   It is pertinent to know that Usman Buzdar had announced a three-day closure of educational institutions a day earlier amid the increase in Lahore’s air quality index. Currently, Lahore’s pollution concentration score is above 300, which is considered hazardous. The cultural capital of Pakistan now stands at the top its polluted cities ranking.  What you need to know:   Healthcare officials have urged citizens to wear face masks to avoid smog-related diseases. The concerning rise in Lahore’s air quality index has left several Lahorites with respiratory diseases. As headache, cough, lung infection, and red-eyes are now commonly seen among the citizens of Lahore.
