Chinese dad starts making medicine to treat his 2 years old son

What happened: A Chinese man named Xu Wei has created a home laboratory to treat his 2 years old son, Haoyang. Xu Wei’s son has a rare genetic condition whose medicine is not available in China. Also, Xu Wei cannot travel to other countries for Hoayang’s treatment due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Xu Wei is quoted by a publication saying,  “I did not really have time to think about whether to do it or not. It had to be done.”

Details: Haoyang has a rare genetic disease known as Menkes Syndrome. This genetic disorder impacts how copper is vital for the brain and NSD (Nervous System Development) and is processed in an individual’s body. It is pertinent to know that kids with this kind of syndrome rarely survive beyond three. Regarding his son’s disease, Xu Wei had said,  “My friends and family said it was impossible to treat Haoyang.”  Xu Wei has currently developed the medicine, but Chinese doctors claim,  “The treatment will reduce symptoms, without leading to recovery.”
