China has the worst electricity shortage and that’s a big problem

What happened: Due to extreme weather in China, the high demand for power has hit the nation’s electricity grid. There are strict limits on coal usage for power forcing the country to rely on power rationing. This problem could last for months and impact China’s manufacturing and in turn the global trade. Details: This is the worst energy shortage in China since 2011. Extreme temperatures mean there is more need for air conditioning and refrigeration causing a huge strain on energy supply. Around 9 provinces, an area the size of United Kingdom, Germany, France and Japan combined, have been imposed with power curbs. China’s renewable energy sources have also been affected by droughts further worsening the energy crisis.
