According to a report by Dawn, Justice Gulzar expressed his confusion on why the government is spending so much on coronavirus while hearing the suo motu case regarding measures taken to deal with the coronavirus crisis being heard by a five-member bench.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed said that the top court wants the government to be more focused on spending the money in the ‘quality of services’ that are being provided countrywide during the coronavirus crisis.
The court said that the bench was not at all satisfied with the report that was submitted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), saying that it could “find no reason why so much money is being spent on this coronavirus”. The written order said that there are other serious ailments prevailing in the country, from which people are dying daily and those ailments are not being catered to, as much as coronavirus is. Chief Justice also inquired about the condition of quarantine centres saying that they were very inefficient.
