Cheating on your spouse is no longer a crime in New York

Adultery is no longer a crime in New York after Governor Kathy Hochul repealed a 117-year-old law that treated it as a misdemeanor.

Hochul called the law outdated, emphasizing that personal issues like infidelity shouldn’t involve the criminal justice system.

The law, originally passed to reduce divorce rates, had seen little use in recent decades, with only five convictions since the 1970s.
