What happened : On Friday, Civil Aviation Authority (CCA) asked five foreign airlines to accommodate passengers affected by flight cancellations in recent weeks with the “earliest possible flights”. Details: CAA issued notices to five foreign airlines for the cancellation of flights to Pakistan which caused a great deal of inconvenience and unrest.
A substantial number of the affected passengers have been facing great nuisance and financial losses whether it be hotel accommodation or living expenses as they had planned their departure from foreign countries to Pakistan as per their reserved/ confirmed flight departure date.

“Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority has taken serious notice against foreign airlines i.e. Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways and Fly Dubai for causing inconvenience to passengers by flight cancellations in recent weeks,” said the CAA, in another statement on Twitter. In the notice, CAA ordered the concerned authorities to ensure that the affected passengers are accommodated on the earliest possible flights to Pakistan while also providing hotel accommodation in case of prolong stay. It stated that the tickets should be fully refunded in addition to the payment of compensation for the damages suffered by the people.

Earlier, CCA had also raised “serious concern” over the airlines for their “irresponsible statements” putting the blame of flight cancellation on CCA.
The sole responsibility of commercial rescheduling / cancellation of flight operations to Pakistan rests solely and completely on concerned foreign air carriers. PCAA has taken a strict notice of this wrongdoing by foreign air carriers leading to public discomfort.
