Authorities demolish Aladin Park in Karachi causing an uproar on Twitter

What happened : As per Supreme Court’s order under anti-encroachment operation, authorities are bulldozing the Aladin Park and Pavilion End Club. Around 400 shops built on Aladin Park are being demolished and the occupants of the shops had been asked to vacate. More than 2000 people will lose their livelihoods due to the demolishment. As a result people are showcasing their anger and disappointment on the internet under the trend #KarachiNeedsAladinPark.

Background: On June 14, the top court ordered to demolish Aladdin park and the club within two days. However, Aladin Amusement Park and Pavilion End Club managements requested the Supreme Court to review its decision. Pavilion End Club employed more than 600 people whose livelihood would be lost due to the demolishment. Demolishing them at such short notice will cause “distress to thousands of families who depend on it for their livelihood and those that depend on it for safe recreation manned by a large bevvy of security guards who maintain law and order and security to keep the facility safe and secure,” said the management. However, the authorities took no action to assure the employs or the management, instead they have been continuing the operation. The operation has led to a surge in tweets under #KarachiNeedsAladinPark with people expressing their anger against the unfair treatment of authorities. Click here for more from Propergaanda.
