At least four drown as Karachiites storm the beach amidst the upcoming fourth wave

What happened : At least four picnickers drowned on Sunday as hundreds of Karachiites streamed to the beach to beat the intense heatwave.

Backstory: Amidst the excruciating weather and the upcoming fourth wave, people in big crowds are flocking towards the beach and recreational places after the government eased COVID-19 restrictions earlier this month. Although the beach offers a temporary relief from the heat, yet it is posing a new threat to the people. Besides the looming threat of the fourth wave predicted in July, reckless overcrowding of beaches also pose a threat to the lives of people.

Reports suggest that a young man, who had arrived to the beach for picnic with his family, drowned while bathing in the sea at Hawke’s Bay near Rehman Goth within the limits of the Mauripur police station. The divers retrieved his body and transported it to Civil Hospital, Karachi, from where his family took the body. 22-year-old Hamza also drowned while bathing in the Hub Dam within the limits of the Manghopir police station. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. He was Lyari resident and had also gone to the dam with his friends for a picnic. Two others drowned while bathing in the sea in Gadani. Edhi divers retrieved their bodies after efforts of an hour. The bodies were then shifted to the Civil Hospital, Hub, where they were identified as 60-year-old Naeem, son of Bashir, and Imran Hussain, 37. The deceased were residents of Baldia Town and had gone to Gadani for a picnic.  Click here to see more from ProperGaanda.
