The announcement: The US e-commerce giant Amazon has finally decided to add Pakistan to its approved sellers list, announced Adviser to Prime Minister of Pakistan for Commerce and Investment Abdul Razzak Dawood. Razak said this was a monumental feat for Pakistani youth, women entrepreneurs and SMEs. He said that efforts to achieve this have been underway for over a year.
Efforts: The efforts of Aisha Moriani (Joint Secretary of Commerce), Omer Gajial (Ex Amazon Category Development), and Shoaib Sarwar (deputy Consul General, Consulate General Pakistan, Los Angeles) along with the team members of NECC (National Ecommerce Council) and Babar Khushnood from Pakistan Software Houses Association have been praised heavily, as all of these parties played a pivotal role in the achieving this for the Pakistani ecommerce community.
What this means: Finally, accounts on Amazon can be set using Pakistani details and credentials. ‘This milestone will drastically change the game and result in a new era of economic growth as more sellers will visit the platform than ever before.’ said a spokesperson to TechJuice.
This decision will make it easier for over a hundred thousand Amazon sellers in Pakistan to run their day to day business operations, who were using overseas connections and accounts to manage their operations.
Reaction: The PM’s aide, Shahbaz Gill praised the PTI government for achieving something that could have not been achieved in the last 10 years.
Efforts of entrepreneurs like Sunny Ali and Saqib Azhar have also been praised in educating the Pakistani entrepreneur community.
A webinar was also organized by the Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles and Ministry of Commerce with executives of major Pakistan companies. This seminar aimed at explaining how Pakistanis can derive maximum gains from this opportunity.
