Who is Jared Kushner?
Jared Kushner is a Former White House senior adviser and also the son-in-law to former US President, Donald Trump. He has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel Prize by Harvard Law School Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz.
About his nomination for the Nobel Prize
Kushner and his deputy, Avi Berkowitz, have been nominated for the Nobel peace prize for their role in negotiating four normalisation deals between Israel and Arab nations known as the “Abraham Accords”. Kushner and Berkowitz were key figures in negotiating deals between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco. Dershowitz has previously advocated for the legalisation of torture argued in the Wall Street Journal on behalf of a “continuum of civilianality” that it is OK for Israel to kill Arab civilians because, well, many of them are just not that civilian-like. Dershowitz also defended Trump during his first impeachment trial.
What is causing the backlash?
‘Kushner’s “Peace to Prosperity” plan, revealed in 2019, part of Trump’s “deal of the century” was to inflict on the Palestinians “private-sector growth”, “foreign direct investment”, “free trade agreements”, and all those other neoliberal catch-phrases that magically endow corporate tyranny and mass economic suffering with a veneer of necessary and exciting progress’ according to Belen Fernandez in Al-Jazeera.
Who else is nominated for the Nobel Prize 2021
Other prominent nominations for the prize this year include Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, the World Health Organization, and climate campaigner Greta Thunberg, who were backed by Norwegian lawmakers who have a track record of picking the winner.
