What happened: On February 26, Al Jazeera and Bangkok Post reported the development of Afghan universities reopening in the country reportedly after a gap of six months. At the same time, the rule of segregated classes across the country was observed. Subsequently, Bangkok Post reported, “Segregated classes the rule, and female students report some difficulties with Taliban minders.” Details: It is pertinent to mention that the universities in Afghanistan had been closed after the Taliban took over the country, and a new Islamic curriculum was introduced for the educational institutions. Whereas, after the reopening of the universities, an Afghan student is quoted by Bangkok Post as, “I am happy that the university resumed.. we want to continue our studies. There are some difficulties, including students being scolded by Taliban guards.” More: Bangkok Post quotes another student as, “They(Taliban) did not behave well with us.. they were rude.” Whereas, different publications reported that there was a shortage of lecturers in the universities as a few had fled the country. It is pertinent to mention that no students returned to the Panjshir University; however, the Panjshir University’s professor is quoted as, “I do not know if they will come tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, or not.”
