Accountability court bars authorities from arresting Khan, grants bail to Bushra Bibi

What happened: On Tuesday, An accountability court in the federal capital stopped the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from arresting Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi in the Al-Qadir Trust case by granting her an interim bail. Details: According to Express Tribune, at the outset of the hearing presided over by Judge Muhammad Basheer, the former first lady’s lawyer Khawaja Haris appeared before the court and applied for Bushra Bibi’s interim bail. Moreover, under tight security, Khan and Bushra Bibi reached the accountability court where Bushra Bibi marked her attendance. What you need to know: As per Express Tribune, during the hearing, Khawaja Haris told the court that Khan’s wife did not receive any notice from the “anti-graft body.” Following that, the bail application was accepted by the court till 31st May, and issued a notice to NAB seeking its reply. Then Judge Bashir also directed Bushra Bibi to deposit a surety bond of Rs. 0.5 million. Furthermore, it is relevant to state that Bushra Bibi’s protective bail from the LHC was ending today, upon which the legal team decided to apply for interim bail in the IHC and later in the accountability court. Tribune also reported that on 15th May, Bushra Bibi was granted protective bail by a division bench of the LHC till May 23 in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
