“A woman is not a property, but a noble and free human being,” says the Taliban government

What happened: The Taliban-led-Afghan government has announced a new order in which they have requested the nation not to treat women as their property. A publication quoted the Taliban’s new decree as,  “A woman is not a property, but a noble and free human being.”  Adding to their order,  “No one can give her to anyone in exchange for peace or to end animosity.”  It is pertinent to know that the Taliban-led government had not allowed women to attend school. At the same time, the new rules have not mentioned women’s right to work and get an education.

Details: Their new order also highlighted that women should have their late husbands’ property while elaborating the property rules. According to reports, after the Taliban takeover, stories were shared of forced marriages. Reportedly, Afghan women were also being married to the Taliban forcefully. An overseas Afghan is quoted by a publication speaking about his sister,  “She’ll be like a war prisoner, she can’t even pronounce some words, she’s in school. But they’re saying she shouldn’t be in school. She should be getting married.”
