The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence is the first of its kind: offering graduate level research-oriented Masters and PhD degrees in the up-and-coming field of AI. Although it was originally set to open in September, its launch has been postponed to January 2021 presumedly due to the worldwide pandemic.
The university will be offering four degree programs come January: MSc and PhD in both Machine Learning and Computer Vision.
What makes this new venture so appealing is the promise that every applicant will be considered for full financial aid and other stipends on a monthly basis. While UAE institutions may not be everyone’s top choice for higher education, they do manage to hold their own. The acclaimed Abu Dhabi University boasts a diverse faculty and state of the art facilities. Moreover, the UAE acts as host to international universities which have established branches here: such as the New York University Abu Dhabi.
If all is as it seems, the new AI university should provide under-privileged students an opportunity to enjoy quality education while meeting like-minded people from all over the world in a gorgeous and affluent environment.
Besides being based in serene UAE capital Abu Dhabi, it is also a brand-new program with incredible amounts of funding. It looks as if this is yet another coup for the UAE, hosting the world’s first graduate AI program. In a country where anything less than the best and the biggest is unacceptable, entering the competitive race in education – and dominating it – will be a point of pride for this still blooming Arab nation.
