Bilquis Edhi – Pakistani Philanthropist Bisques Edhi, a professional nurse, has been named ‘The Mother of Pakistan’ and rightly so. Born in 1947 in Karachi she heads the Edhi Basis, and along with her late husband obtained the 1986 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service. In 2015, she obtained the Mother Teresa Memorial Worldwide Award for Social Justice. Her charity provides many services in Pakistan and also runs a hospital and emergency service in Karachi. Breaking the glass ceiling is a difficult task, especially in Pakistan, but Maheen Rehman has managed to shatter stereotypes in a very short span. In the country’s male-dominated financial sector, Ms. Rehman holds her own place, standing tall. Maheen Rehman is not just Pakistan’s top investment banker, but also ranks fifth in the Forbes ’40 Under 40′ list this year. She is the CEO of Alfalah GHP Investment Management Ltd, the country’s eighth largest money-managing firm. Areeba Tipu Khan A mother of one who decided to pursue her passion of flying 10 years ago, Areeba Tipu Khan moved to Lahore from her hometown Pindi to join a local flying school. In two years, Areeba became Pakistan’s National Carrier’s first officer flying the ATR. For Areeba the sky is literally the limit! Mehreen Syed
Mehreen Syed needs no introduction, being the beloved personality that she is. Mehreen is a renowned Pakistani model and was titled Indigo Face of the Year 2010 and Model of the Year by Lux Style Awards. She is also the CEO of IFAP (International Fashion Academy Pakistan) and the Spokesperson for Loreal Paris. The supermodel has achieved multiple milestones during her career and she isn’t stopping anytime soon! Muniba Mazari
At the age of 21, Muniba Mazarin suffered an injury that paralysed her from the hip down. Her backbone was crushed and she sustained multiple fractures to her arm, shoulder, ribs and collarbone. Doctors told her that she would be unable to walk, paint, or give birth; this left her devastated. Nine years later Muniba was named one of BBC’s ‘100 Most Inspirational Women in 2015’ and featured in Forbes’ ’30 under 30’ the following year. She is also known as the Iron Lady of Pakistan. She truly is a force to be reckoned with. Sharmeen Obaid – First Pakistani Filmmaker to obtain two Oscars
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is a journalist, activist and filmmaker. She has gained Academy Awards for her documentaries ‘Saving Face’ and ‘A Girl In The River: The Price Of Forgiveness’ bringing not one but two Oscars to Pakistan. She highlights issues that plague the Pakistani society, something she faces a lot of backlash for. Nonetheless, criticism doesn’t cease her from creating eye opening and thought provoking movies and most of all, following her passion! Musarrat Misbah
Last but certainly not the least is Musarrat Misbah, Pakistan’s well-known beautician-turned-philanthropist. She is one of the first beauty experts to introduce the trend of professional beauty salons in the country. She started the Depilex Institute, which became one of the biggest beauty training institutes in the country. But Musrrat’s journey wasn’t over yet, with time she got inspired to incorporate the idea of ‘beauty with a cause’ with the Depilex Smile Again Foundation. She used this initiative to help acid attack victims and remove the stigma attached to it. When asked what was on her bucket list, Musarrat Misbah replied, “A crime free Pakistan”.
