Details : The Sindh government has agreed to provide a Rs140 million grant to the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) for the provision of free liver transplant surgeries.
What happened : Dr. Faisal Saud Dar, Pakistan’s leading liver transplant surgeon, would supervise the free liver transplant surgeries, the Sindh government has asked for the drive to be done at at its Ojha campus by the end of June 2022. In 2019, the DUHS began its liver transplant programme. At the medical university’s Ojha campus, surgeons have performed 17 liver transplants so far.
More : Confirming the news, DUHS Vice Chancellor, Prof Saeed Quraishy said, “A liver transplant surgery costs between three to four million rupees if the procedure goes well, without any complications. He added that with the help of Rs145 million, they would hopefully be able to perform upto 50 liver transplants by June next year.” He also assured that the success rate of transplantations at DOW is around 95%.
