what happened: At least 23 people were killed and several others injured when a bus driver lost control making a sharp turn on the M8 motorway and fell into a ravine in the Khuzdar district of Balochistan. The passengers were pilgrims returning to Dadu in Sindh from Wadh in Balochistan after attending the annual urs at the shrine of Sufi saint Abdul Qasir Naqshbandi.
The response: Levies personnel and rescue workers shifted the injured to the hospital and the bodies of the deceased were sent to their respective hometowns after the completion of medico-legal formalities. A Levies official said that although the surviving passengers have placed the blame on the drivers’ recklessness, the cause of the accident is still under investigation especially because the bus was already overcrowded with pilgrims sitting on the roof. This incident serves as a painful reminder of the Shah Noorani incident that happened last year killing 5 people and injuring over 24.
