With a considerable chunk of the donations from corporate
sponsors, the WHO’s Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund will get $55.1m, while $72.8m
will go to charities such as food banks and shelters. The WHO fund will also be
geared towards tests, treatment, and support for the development of a vaccine.
Apart from raising funds, the concert also gave celebrities
an opportunity to raise awareness. Beyonce drew attention towards the African
American sector of the workforce saying, “Pre-existing health conditions and
lack of access… are some of the reasons why it’s most prevalent amongst
communities of colour.”
