Mohammed Ali Jinnah was born on December 25, 1876, in an ordinary but comfortable household in Karachi, which was then part of the Bombay Presidency in British India. Interestingly, his birthplace was not far from where Islam first came to the Indian subcontinent in AD 711 through the conquests of the young Arab General, Muhammad bin Qasim. Jinnah in his life had his fair share of ups and downs. Before he could realize his vision of Pakistan’s creation, there were many instances where it seemed his dream wouldn’t materialize. Especially after his wife Ruttie Petit passed away, Jinnah was heartbroken and his political career was in turmoil. He had decided to abandon his ambitions and head to England to stay with his sister Fatima. However, little did he know, fate had other plans for him. While the man himself might have left the building, he left many words of wisdom for us to reflect on. Not to mention, an exquisite fashion sense to aspire to aswell! Here are some of my favourites: The time when he simply wouldn’t tolerate any type of sectarian divide Or any sort of religious indoctrination The time Jinnah wasn’t afraid of speaking against a cultural wrong He knew what gender equality can achieve The time he literally told everyone their job! If only we had listened The time he was simply brilliant at articulation When he simply wouldn’t budge The time Jinnah simply owned the conversation He was basically YODA in disguise, minus the reverse dialect The time he told us to stop second guessing everything And like that Mr. Jinnah said his final goodbye to his creation and sailed for Nirvana
